I WILL BE THE CHANGE
Why do we lack the courage to run our own race? Why are we bent upon practising what people before us practised? Why is it that we lack the will to act upon the right? As i walk into the kailash boys hostel, my mind is flooded with a stream of unanswered queries. I eagerly seek an answer.
These all queries of mine points towards one common menace hounding almost all professional institutes- RAGGING. Every fresher is hounded by a sense of authority from the seniors who very often make him lose his dignity every single day, not to mention the never ending physical abuses being hurled on them. This shame and pain amongst the freshers makes a world of their own, leading to frustration, thus shattering altogether the dreams they have nurtured for long. A lowered self esteem is there for all to notice. The entire positive energy of theirs is diverted away from academic and co-curricular performance. The ever-increasing assignments and project reports from the seniors do not offer any answers either. And perhaps the most unfortunate part is that the authorities, inspite of being aware of every part of it ,more often than not ,offer an ignorant hand. And as i pen it down all , here comes the mother of all queries –IS IT JUSTIFIED?
Before i move any further , let me make you see the situation from the point of view of the people who are on stage right now-THE SENIORS. Let me be very clear though. Even i can see that , the people who stamp their authority over their junior colleagues are not the devils on the streets or the beasts or the terrorists. For me they are just being taken away by a wave coming from miles behind, but never taking some time out to ride out of that wave and questioning its validity .For them they rag because they were ragged , they want respect because they were forced to respect .Even their dignity was hit at. Even their self-esteem was lowered .Even they were hurled physical abuses. And they are bent upon repeating whatever happened to them.Instead the pain which still resides in them should make them a part of that refreshing change which will discontinue this pattern. For me i will constantly work towards being a change and will honestly and sincerely contribute my bit towards it.
Let me put across a question to the conscience of every one of you who have your junior colleagues working under you. Do you want to be a part of something , which somewhere deep down in your hearts ,even you believe is not justified? Do you want to ride that wave which has washed away countless number of dreams? Do you want to inflict the same pain which still hasn’t melted out of your hearts? Try and seek the answers for these. The soul never lies , does it?
